Sweet victories at Entenmann's race
Carlos Castro Jr. of Levittown continued his winning ways
in the Entenmann's Great South Bay Half Marathon, held Saturday in Bay Shore.
Castro ran 1:15:09, 35 seconds ahead of Bay Shore's Martin Knapp. Marilyn Caulfield
of Sayville was the women's winner in 1:24:20. Long Island Marathon wheelchair champ
Peter Hawkins was first chair, in a personal best 59:26. Seaford's Rob Loughlin
(1:03:14) was second. Second-place woman Donna Rubin of Farmingdale
(1:27:10) has a busy week coming up: On Saturday, she and her fiance, Brian McMahon
(who ran 1:33:28 on Saturday), leave for Hawaii where, on Tuesday, they will be
married. Three days later, as Donna McMahon, she will compete in the Hawaii Ironman
. . . Bob Spina Jr. of North Massapequa won the 10K race in Saturday's
event, in a personal best 36:43. Rhonda Nieder of Dix Hills was the first woman
in 43:56. Jim Michaels of Melville won the 5K in 17:32. The women's winner was Erin
Sherry of Rockville Centre in 20:28.
